Why here

Nine reasons we love this corner of Ubud

After fifteen years in Bali — Canggu, then Pererenan, then Cemagi, each one lost to construction, traffic and noise — our founder went looking for the last of the real Bali: somewhere a child could arrive calm and a family could actually live well. She found it twenty minutes from central Ubud.

01

There is genuinely no traffic

No traffic. No walls of scooters, no gridlock, no hour-long school run. Drop-off takes minutes, not hours, and children arrive calm instead of already overwhelmed.

02

Twenty minutes to central Ubud

Twenty minutes to central Ubud — the island's best food, culture, yoga, spiritual centres, shopping and children's activities — yet far enough away that home is silent at night.

03

Beaches without the crowds

Keramas surf beach in 30 minutes and the white sand of Candidasa in 50. Real fishing villages, empty sand and no beach clubs — the east coast is still untouched.

04

Waterfalls and secret temples

Tibumana, Tegenungan and Kuning waterfalls, plus ancient Pejeng temples almost no tourist visits, and three to four yoga studios within a 10–20 minute drive.

05

Fitness, padel and rice-field gyms

One of the best gyms in Bali, set over the rice fields, with personal training from 250K IDR a session — and padel courts five minutes away that you can actually book.

06

You can actually walk here

Miles of walking and jogging tracks through rice fields where you pass nobody. In most of Bali there is no footpath at all — here, families walk, run and cycle daily.

07

Cafés and restaurants, local to five-star

Village cafés five minutes away where parents meet, six or seven restaurants and resorts, and five-star dining with no queues and no booking weeks ahead.

08

High-end villas at half the price

High-end villas — pool, staff, rice-field views — for half the price of Canggu, Pererenan, Sanur or central Ubud, and no bidding war to secure one.

09

A real village, and a school hotspot

Empathy School three minutes, Woods School seven, Green School forty. Food comes from the local organic market, and families here merge with village life rather than overrun it.

Surrounding area

Rice fields, jungle and open views around the school

Open rice terraces, palm and jungle valleys, and village lanes where the loudest sound is water in the irrigation channels. This is the view from almost every room of the school — and a big part of why families say Winta's Place feels like nowhere else on earth.

The School

A look around the campus

These are the real spaces your child moves through each day — from arrival and classrooms to the pool, kitchen and respite rooms.

01

Arrival & entrance

Arrival sets the tone for the whole day. A quiet private driveway off a village lane, a traditional gate, and a soft welcome room with sofas and rice-field light — no bells, no crowds, no chaotic car park. Most mornings a child is greeted by name before they have even taken their shoes off.

02

Learning spaces

Small, soft-lit rooms grouped by age and stage, each with natural materials, quiet corners, room to move and a door straight out to the garden. Nothing here looks or sounds like an institutional classroom — no fluorescent strip lights, no echoing corridors, no thirty desks in rows.

03

Pool, gardens & outdoors

Regulation comes before academics, and outside is where most of it happens. A swimming pool, shaded lawns, garden beds, and open space in every direction — used every single day, all year, in a climate that never takes it away.

04

Kitchen & shared table

Everything is cooked fresh on site each morning — whole food, gut-health aware, allergy and sensory conscious, much of it from the organic market minutes down the road. The long shared table is where children, therapists and teachers eat together, and where a huge amount of real progress quietly happens.

05

Joglo, respite & overnight stays

A calm joglo pavilion and quiet bedrooms make weekend respite, overnight stays and boarding possible in a place the child already knows and trusts. Parents get a genuine break; the child gets no upheaval, no strange building, no new faces.

Questions

Frequently asked questions about the school

Quick answers to the things families usually want to know first about location, the campus and what is available outside of school hours.

Where is Winta's Place?

Winta's Place is in Ubud, Bali — twenty minutes from central Ubud and thirty minutes from Canggu. The school sits on a quiet village lane surrounded by rice fields and jungle, with zero traffic on the morning school run.

What is in the area around the school?

Within five minutes you will find gyms, padel courts, yoga studios, cafés, organic produce markets and other international schools. A short drive opens up to Keramas and Candidasa beaches, waterfalls, walking tracks and high-end villa living at a fraction of the Canggu price.

What are the learning spaces like?

Small, soft-lit classrooms grouped by age and stage. Each room uses natural materials, has quiet corners, room to move and a door straight out to the garden. There are no fluorescent strip lights, no echoing corridors and no rows of thirty desks.

Is it sensory friendly?

Yes. The whole campus is designed to keep children regulated: calm acoustics, gentle lighting, green views from almost every window, and dedicated chill-out spaces for morning groups and sensory breaks. Regulation comes before academics here.

What spaces are there for overnight stays, after school and breakfast club?

We have a traditional joglo pavilion and quiet bedrooms for weekend respite and overnight stays, plus a kitchen and shared dining table for breakfast club and after-school care. Because everything happens in the same familiar place, children feel safe rather than unsettled.
