Our approach

A safe place where special needs children can genuinely thrive.

Winta's Place exists to give neurodivergent children and teenagers — including those with autism, ADHD and learning differences — a holistic environment where every part of their development is cared for: academics, health, behaviour, therapy, social life, emotional intelligence, adventure, culture and community — under one roof, in Ubud, Bali, with consistent support for the whole family.

Core philosophy

Our philosophy.

Right tools, right people, right modalities, right time — guided by the principle of uniqueness. Every child at our special-needs homeschool in Ubud is understood as an individual, taught at their own developmental level, and worked with through their strengths, interests and gifts — not their diagnosis.

Right tools

Materials, curriculum and sensory environment matched to how each child actually learns — not what the timetable says they should be doing.

Right people

Small teams of teachers and specialists who genuinely know each child, communicate closely with parents, and share the same calm, respectful approach.

Right modalities

Academic, practical, movement-based, sensory, social and emotional learning woven together — because no single mode reaches every child.

Right time

Pacing that follows the child's readiness, not the calendar. Some skills come earlier, some later — all of them stick.

One place, everything in it

School, therapy and care — under one roof.

Families of special-needs children in Bali usually spend their week driving between school, therapies, appointments and support services. At Winta's Place, every part of a child's development is cared for in one place — so growth is coordinated, consistent and actually possible.

Individualised academics

An internationally recognised online curriculum (Schoolio) blended with Winta's Place modalities. Every child works at their actual level across every subject, with a written Individual Learning Plan.

Life skills

Cooking, money, self-care, organisation, planning and independence — built into the week, not bolted on. Core learning, not extras.

Communication & social skills

Language, conversation, friendship and cooperation — practised daily inside real activities, not rehearsed in isolation.

Behaviour & regulation

A calm, predictable environment with co-regulation and clear structure. Behaviour is understood as communication and worked on gently, alongside families.

Diet, health & movement

Nourishing food, daily movement, time outside, and attention to sleep, gut health and sensory needs — because a dysregulated body cannot learn.

Therapy & specialist support

Coordinated access to the therapies each child needs — including speech, occupational and behavioural support — brought into their week rather than scattered across the city. One team, one plan.

Adventure, nature & culture

Bali as a classroom. Regular time in nature, in the community, and immersed in local culture — the parts of childhood every child deserves.

Community & belonging

A small, warm community where children are genuinely known, families support each other, and every child has a place they belong.

Strengths, not deficits

We start with what a child can do — and build from there.

Every child arrives with a unique focus area, a particular interest, a strength no one else in the room has. We treat those as the starting point — not a distraction from the "real" curriculum. When learning is anchored in a child's genuine interests and strengths, engagement, confidence and academic progress follow naturally.

A life built around strengths rather than limitations — for the child, and for the family around them.

Extended support

Supporting families beyond school hours.

Special-needs families in Bali need more than a school day. Winta's Place is built around the reality of raising a neurodivergent child — with extended hours, limited school holidays, planned respite and boarding, and year-round support so consistency, structure and predictability never disappear. See our full options on the Programs page and pricing on our Pricing page.

Earlier starts & later finishes

Breakfast club from 7.30am, school day from 8.30am, and after-school care from 3.30 to 6.30pm — real, dependable coverage for working parents and carers across the whole day.

Limited school holidays

With only 5 full weeks of closure a year (2 weeks Christmas & New Year, 1 week Easter, 1 week July, 1 week September), we stay open the rest of the time. Students get consistency, predictability, support and structure year round — with fun, relaxed weeks woven through the calendar to change the pace without losing the rhythm.

Respite, boarding & family support

Sometimes families need a break, a holiday, or intensive support. Whether it's a few nights, a weekend, a full week, longer boarding stays, or school camps during holiday periods — we offer live-in care so parents can rest, and so children can settle into a routine that genuinely works for them.

Consistency, year round

Special needs children fall out of rhythm — and behind — the moment structure disappears. Sleep, behaviour, regulation, learning and confidence all slip, and every school break becomes weeks of rebuilding. Holding that consistency alone at home is exhausting for parents. Winta's Place carries it with you: one team, one environment, one predictable rhythm, all year.

Measurable growth

Everything in one place — for parents, teachers and the child.

Parents of special needs children carry an enormous administrative load. Winta's Place is designed to lift as much of that as possible — with online curriculum, communication and progress tracking all in one system, so real growth is visible and shared.

  • Individual Learning Plans, therapy notes, health information and progress all in one place.
  • Measurable results across every area of a child's growth — academic, social, emotional, life skills and independence.
Where we are

Away from the chaos, in a humble Balinese village.

Winta's Place sits in a small, quiet village near Ubud surrounded by rice fields, palms and jungle — a simple community where the pace is slower, the sky is bigger, and children are welcomed by the kind, compassionate warmth of the Balinese people.

It's the kind of place a sensitive nervous system exhales in — and a childhood is allowed to actually happen.

Bali becomes the classroom — its rivers, rice fields, jungles, kitchens, temples and quiet lanes. Sensitive nervous systems settle in this environment. Real childhood happens here — barefoot, curious, muddy, brave.

Waterfalls & wild swimming

Rivers, hidden waterfalls, natural rock pools — regulation and joy that no sensory room can replicate.

Hiking & jungle walks

Bodies moving, senses open, big feelings dissolving into big landscapes.

Bike rides through the village

Quiet lanes, rice fields, freedom on two wheels — confidence and independence built one ride at a time.

Organic farming

Hands in the soil. Planting, tending, harvesting — patience and cause-and-effect learned the way children remember.

Cooking with what we grow

From garden to kitchen. Real food, real skills, real pride in something you made yourself.

Temple visits & Balinese culture

Ceremonies, offerings, gamelan, dance — a slower, sacred rhythm children absorb without needing it explained.

And more — river days, mask-making with local artisans, market trips, gamelan lessons, temple ceremonies, campfires, star gazing. The kind of childhood every child deserves, woven into the school week.
