Live-In Carer — Special Needs & Neurodivergent Children and Teens

Full time · Live in · Six days per weekPejeng, UbudStart before September

The steady, trusted, ever-present adult at the centre of daily life at Winta's Place — holding the before-school routine, the after-school program, and Weekend Club & Respite Care. This is a hands-on live-in caregiving role, not a classroom teaching role.

  • Degree in special needs or disability studies, or a closely related field
  • Extensive hands-on experience as a disability carer with children and teens up to 18
  • Maximum of 4 children in your direct care at any one time — a second carer assists above that
  • Private room, all meals, wifi, laundry, cleaning and electricity fully covered

About Winta's Place

Winta's Place is a new special needs school and family-support community in Pejeng, Ubud, Bali. It exists because too many children fall into the space between mainstream education and specialist disability schools — intelligent children with enormous potential who simply learn differently. At Winta's Place, education adapts to the child.

  • Built for verbal, active, socially interested children and teens (through to age 18) who need more than mainstream school, but not a severe-disability setting
  • Supports autism (ASD), ADHD/AuDHD, dyslexia and other learning differences, developmental language disorder, sensory processing differences, anxiety/school refusal, and emotional regulation difficulties
  • A genuinely holistic day — academics, movement, nutrition, therapy, nature and community woven together, not bolted on
  • A live-in family home at the heart of the school, alongside the Core School Program, Before & After School Care, and Weekend Club & Respite Care

The role

You hold the before-school routine, the after-school program, and weekend and respite care, working closely with the Director and Head Teacher, who set the plans and activities you deliver and help shape.

  • Maximum day-to-day responsibility of up to 4 children at any one time — above 4, a second carer is brought in so ratios always stay safe and manageable
  • The Founder's daughter (16) lives in full-time and is part of your daily care; other children stay for respite — a few hours, an overnight, a weekend, or longer
  • Full continuity for families: the same trusted live-in carer their child already knows, in the same home, every time
  • Reports to the Head Teacher for day-to-day activities, and to the Director of Special Education for educational and behavioural standards

Hours & schedule

  • Weekday mornings — 6.30am to 8.30am
  • Weekday afternoons — 3.00pm to 9.00pm
  • Saturday — 6.30am to 2.30pm
  • Six days worked per week
  • Second carer support: Saturday 2.30pm–9.30pm and Sunday 7.00am–9.00am, covering your breaks and assisting whenever extra children are present for respite or after-school peaks

Live-in arrangement

As a live-in carer, you are part of the household, not a visiting staff member. Winta's Place covers the full cost of living in as part of the role.

  • Your own private room within the home
  • All food supplied
  • Wifi, laundry, cleaning and electricity fully covered as part of your living arrangement
  • A settled, comfortable home environment, with clear personal space and time off protected around your rostered hours

Before & After School Program — your day

The Before & After School Program exists so families don't have to piece together separate care around the school day. You are the constant, familiar face who carries children through it.

  • Run Breakfast Club for children dropped off early — our chef prepares the food, and you lead the morning routine: cooking together, tidying, laying tables, getting ready for the school day
  • Always present for any live-in children, and for any child staying overnight for respite — waking them, and getting them dressed, fed and ready using charts, Alexa prompts and consistent routines
  • Deliver after-school activities exactly as briefed by the Director and Head Teacher — art projects, passion-project support, and overseeing the specialist teachers (music, yoga, meditation, fitness) on their scheduled days
  • Track the private therapy schedule closely, making sure every child gets to their on-site session on time
  • Lead some afternoons and weekend days autonomously — village walks, gardening, cooking classes — building life skills, independence and fun
  • Hold the pace of the day deliberately: unrushed, low sensory overload, no devices unless it's purposeful group learning, and always room for rest, presence and simply “being”

Weekend Club & Respite Care

Weekends run at a different, slower pace than the school week — light, easy, connection-focused time, in the villa or at nearby activities.

  • Focus on friendships, hanging out, connection and community, not a packed schedule of activities
  • Support genuine respite for parents who need a break, and for children who are building and embedding routines with our help
  • Build life skills across hygiene, routine, taking direction, autonomy and independence, using the Atomic Habits framework to help children master small habits that compound over time

What you'll bring — the person we're looking for

This is a role built on trust. You will be alone with children and teens for extended periods, including overnight, so we are looking for someone exceptional across every one of these areas.

  • Extremely patient — able to sit with slow, non-linear progress and repeated routines without ever losing warmth or composure
  • Highly skilled and highly trained, with proven techniques of your own that you have mastered, not improvised in the moment
  • Able to manage any situation calmly, getting every child onside even under pressure
  • Energetic, fun and engaging with children and teens, while remaining extremely firm and consistent on boundaries
  • Ensures behavioural and social techniques stay fully aligned with parents and teachers — everyone always on the same page
  • Creative — able to take the Director's and Head Teacher's schedule and assist in building it out into real, workable activities
  • Highly organised — comfortable with admin, ordering materials, and reporting on time, every time
  • Comfortable living and working in an environment with cameras in main rooms, in place for legal and child-safety reasons
  • Willing to undergo extreme background checks, including police checks, prior to and during employment
  • Trained to a high level in first aid, and confident using that training if ever needed
  • Deeply private, confidential and sensitive with family information — nothing discussed outside the role
  • Excellent spoken and written English, and a strong, clear communicator with children, parents and the wider team
  • Extremely clean and hygienic, with basic cooking skills
  • Comfortable using ChatGPT or Claude to speed up parent communication, goal-setting, planning and reporting
  • Willing and able to log daily progress in the parent/teacher/student app, consistently and on time
  • Physically fit, active and genuinely loves adventure and fitness — this role involves a lot of physical activity, walks, sport and outdoor adventure
  • Able to safely ride a bike while carrying a child or passenger
  • Confident holding consistent bedtime and sleep routines
  • Experienced in behaviour management, with a genuine track record, not theory alone
  • Strong personal safety practices across every part of the day: supervision ratios, road and water safety, kitchen and cooking safety, safe lifting and handling, medication awareness, and safe use of the home's facilities and vehicles

Requirements

  • Degree in special needs or disability studies, or a closely related field
  • Extensive hands-on experience as a disability carer with children and teens in our age range (through to age 18)
  • Proof of experience and demonstrated skills — documentation, certificates or portfolio evidence will be requested
  • Excellent references, specifically proven experience caring for children alone and unsupervised
  • Current First Aid certification, to a high standard
  • Clear police and background checks, including ongoing checks during employment
  • Based in Bali, or willing and able to relocate, with no plans to relocate elsewhere

Safety & safeguarding

  • Cameras are in place in all main rooms of the home for legal compliance and child safety, and every live-in carer works within full view of this arrangement
  • Full background, police and reference checks are completed before appointment and reviewed periodically thereafter
  • Strict confidentiality is required around every family's personal and medical information
  • All behaviour management and safeguarding practice must align with the school's Positive Behaviour Support framework and the Director's standards

What we offer

Monthly salary, inclusive of all payments required under Indonesian employment regulations. You will only ever hold direct responsibility for a maximum of 4 children at one time — a second carer is brought in above that number.

  • One child — set-up and creation of programs, materials preparation ahead of school opening — IDR 9,000,000
  • Opening — up to 4 children — IDR 12,000,000
  • Up to 6 children (second carer engaged to assist) — IDR 13,000,000
  • Up to 8 children (full capacity, second carer engaged to assist) — IDR 14,000,000
  • Live-in accommodation with your own private room, all meals supplied, and wifi, laundry, cleaning and electricity fully covered
  • A settled, long-term home within a small, close-knit founding team

How to apply

Send a CV along with proof of your qualifications, experience and skills, a short cover letter telling us about your experience caring for children and teens alone, and a minimum of four professional references who can speak directly to your experience providing unsupervised care — all through the application form below.

  • Supports autism (ASD), ADHD/AuDHD, dyslexia and other learning differences, developmental language disorder, sensory processing differences, anxiety/school refusal, and emotional regulation difficulties
  • Small classes, high staff-to-child ratio, and an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) for every child
  • A genuinely holistic day — academics, movement, nutrition, therapy, nature and community woven together, not bolted on
  • Speech, OT, counselling and other therapy referrals coordinated into one plan, alongside a parent app for daily communication

The role

  • Reports to the Director of Special Education & Student Development, with a direct working relationship with the Founder & Principal
  • Leads a classroom of up to eight students, directing the assistant teacher, OT, social worker and external specialists toward one coherent plan for each child
  • This is a leadership and delivery role: you help design the plan and you make it real in the room

What you'll bring — the person we're looking for

  • Deep, genuine patience — you know progress is slow, non-linear, and worth waiting for
  • A large, practical toolkit for managing difficult behaviour and emotional dysregulation
  • Relentlessly consistent in tone, boundaries and follow-through
  • Calm under pressure — the harder the moment, the steadier and more decisive you become
  • Genuinely focused on results — invested in a child's measurable progress
  • Strong, natural leadership with the assistant teacher, OT, social worker and external specialists
  • Warm, proactive communication with parents, treating their knowledge of their child as a primary source of insight

Not a fit if you…

  • Prefer to deliver someone else's plan rather than help shape it
  • Struggle to hold a boundary consistently, or let structure slip in the name of being liked
  • Are looking for a desk-based leadership role rather than one spent leading in the classroom

1. Preparation & curriculum management

  • Build lesson plans for each child and each group at weekly, monthly and yearly horizons, with the Director's support — completed well in advance and adjusted as needed along the way
  • Co-design each child's Individual Learning Plan (ILP) directly with parents, drawing on previous reports, assessments and — above all — the information parents themselves provide
  • Build each ILP around the child's own focus areas and passions, woven together with the school's rolling monthly themes
  • Use the Schoolio app and its pre-built lessons and materials as the backbone for planning, ensuring every child works directly out of the platform so parents can track progress independently
  • Take personal responsibility for enrolling every child onto Schoolio and keeping their profile current
  • Set clear, visible goals and milestones across learning, behaviour, life skills, emotional development, social skills and communication through the parent/teacher app, and log a weekly report for every child without exception
  • Maintain working proficiency with ChatGPT and Claude to generate reports, ILP drafts and planning tasks efficiently — freeing up time for the classroom rather than the desk

2. Teaching & classroom leadership

  • Lead the core teaching for each student, directing the assistant teacher, OT, social worker and external contractors — including afterschool and overnight carers, and movement, yoga and meditation teachers — toward shared goals for the individual and the group
  • Group up to eight students primarily by peer age and developmental level, re-grouping through the day or week as focus areas require
  • Balance group and individual work across the day, so every child gets both peer learning and focused one-to-one attention
  • Build a highly structured, systemised classroom routine using habit stacking, so the environment itself brings out the best in every child
  • Create and maintain a classroom environment that is easy for sensory processing — predictable, calm and adaptable to individual sensory needs
  • Work alongside the assistant teacher and the part-time OT and social worker, using their presence in the room to free up time for planning and other duties
  • Hand over every child to their parent or after-school carer at the end of the day, with a brief, warm update
  • Lead a weekly Parent Assembly, delivering key topics, celebrating wins, sharing new learnings and awards, and using it as a genuine engine for driving change and momentum

3. Creativity & community

  • Bring genuine creativity to the schedule, plans, outings, adventures and School Holiday Programs
  • Build a sense of community and fun into the everyday program, not just into special events
  • Contribute ideas and energy to school-wide events — plays, camps, the Inner Peace retreat, the school dance, and end-of-year student/parent presentations

4. Driving & leading the wider team

  • Work closely with the Director on curriculum, ILPs and classroom format
  • Provide strong, clear leadership to the OT, social worker and assistant teacher, directing their work toward the goals set out in each child's plan
  • Treat every member of the team as equally important regardless of how many hours a week they spend with the group, and actively drive external contractors and part-time specialists to get the most out of their time in-house
  • Coordinate with the OT and social worker so that, outside of core education time, they are freed to focus on their own specialist work while you lead academics and overall classroom oversight

5. Parent relationships

  • Build strong, open, ongoing communication with parents through the parent/teacher app
  • Listen to parents and work with them for consistency between school and home, treating parent knowledge of their child as a primary source of insight
  • Where behaviour at school mirrors behaviour at home, involve external therapists, the OT and the social worker to resolve the issue together with the family, rather than in isolation

6. Administration, materials & legal compliance

  • Advise the admin team on all materials needed for the classroom, in alignment with the agreed budget
  • Work within the legal frameworks governing culture, safety, integrity and the legalities surrounding the school in Indonesia
  • Complete all required safeguarding training, and immediately escalate any safeguarding concern to the Director or Founder

What we offer

Monthly salary, inclusive of all payments required under Indonesian employment regulations:

  • Preparation phase (founder's daughter and setup) — IDR 11,000,000
  • 4+ children enrolled — IDR 13,000,000
  • 6+ children enrolled — IDR 15,000,000
  • 8 children enrolled (full capacity) — IDR 17,000,000
  • 8:00am–5:00pm daily (one hour break), six days a week: five teaching days plus one lighter planning/admin day
  • Four full weeks off per year, plus attendance at School Holiday Programs (a further five weeks) as required

Requirements

  • Education degree with a special needs study or specialisation — essential
  • Minimum 5 years' experience across a range of special needs presentations and ages, up to 18 years old
  • Proof of results, supported by case studies, and previous ILP examples available for review
  • Trauma-informed practice experience
  • Minimum four professional references, current First Aid certification, and a clear police/background check
  • Based in Bali, with no plans to relocate; available to start in August

How to apply

Send a CV, a cover letter outlining your experience and your own plan and proposal for how you would deliver this role, and a short video introducing yourself and what you would bring to Winta's Place — all through the application form below.

  • Speech, OT, counselling and other therapy referrals coordinated into one plan, alongside a parent app for daily communication

The role

You bring someone else's excellent plan to life with warmth, structure and total consistency, and flag clearly and early when something isn't working.

  • Reports to the Head Teacher day-to-day; the Director of Special Education sets overall educational standards
  • Takes guidance from the school's OT and Social Worker on their in-house days

What you'll bring — the person we're looking for

This role is as much about who you are as what you've done. More than anything, we need someone who can hold firm, consistent structure and genuine warmth and fun at the same time — every single day.

  • Deep, genuine patience — you know progress is slow, non-linear, and worth waiting for
  • A large, practical toolkit for managing difficult behaviour and emotional dysregulation — multiple strategies, not one script
  • Works from proven, tried-and-tested frameworks rather than improvising in the moment
  • Reinforces habits and routines through repetition, without becoming bored or short by the hundredth repeat
  • Relentlessly consistent in tone, boundaries and follow-through — this matters more than almost anything else
  • Genuinely fun to be around, while never letting warmth soften a boundary that needs to hold
  • Calm under pressure — the harder the moment, the steadier and more decisive you become
  • Genuinely focused on results — invested in a child's measurable progress, not just a quiet room
  • Takes direction well, communicates proactively, and brings excellent organisation — thinking ahead of the day rather than reacting to it
  • Warm, professional communication with parents, and smooth coordination with the OT, social worker and wider team

Not a fit if you…

  • Struggle to hold a boundary consistently, or let structure slip in the name of being liked
  • Find it hard to follow someone else's plan without quietly adjusting it, or resist direction
  • Are looking for a stepping stone to leadership rather than work you want to do brilliantly for its own sake

1. Delivering the plan — not designing it

  • Deliver each day's lesson plan and each child's ILP exactly as briefed, working within Schoolio and established materials
  • Flag promptly whenever a plan isn't working as expected, rather than adjusting it independently
  • Maintain working familiarity with every child's ILP goals, well enough to support any child in the room

2. Full-day support — the whole holistic program

  • Support every part of the day — movement, nature-based learning, life skills and meals, passion projects, and group social-emotional time — not only formal academics
  • Provide close, warm, hands-on support during transitions, sensory overwhelm or emotional dysregulation
  • Use the calm-down sequences and co-regulation strategies set out in each child's ILP, applying them consistently

3. Behaviour support & co-regulation

  • Recognise early signs of dysregulation and respond using Positive Behaviour Support principles: connection before correction
  • Stay calm and physically present during escalation, never matching or amplifying a child's energy
  • Follow individual behaviour support plans precisely, escalating immediately for anything outside the plan

4. Documentation & communication

  • Log same-day notes via the parent/teacher app and keep records accurate and current
  • Communicate handover information to the Head Teacher clearly and completely, every day

5. Team collaboration

  • Work under the Head Teacher's direct daily direction, and take guidance from the OT and social worker
  • Communicate proactively — raise questions and observations rather than guessing

6. Creativity, community & holiday programs

  • Bring genuine energy and warmth to outings, events and the sensory/movement elements of the day
  • Attend and actively support every School Holiday Program, maintaining the same standards as term time

What we offer

Monthly salary, inclusive of all payments required under Indonesian employment regulations:

  • Preparation phase (prior to opening) — IDR 8,000,000
  • Opening, up to 4 children enrolled — IDR 9,500,000
  • Up to 6 children enrolled — IDR 11,500,000
  • 8 children enrolled (full capacity) — IDR 13,500,000
  • 8:00am–4:00pm daily, five teaching days a week, on-site, term time
  • A 6th day each week for preparation and admin, completed at home in your own time
  • Four full weeks off per year, plus attendance at School Holiday Programs (a further five weeks) as support and guide alongside the Head Teacher

Requirements

  • Excellent, fluent English (spoken and written) — essential, as the school teaches expat children and all communication is in English
  • Education degree, or currently completing an education-related qualification
  • Minimum 2 years' hands-on experience with special needs children across a range of ages (not early years only)
  • Current First Aid certification and a clear police/background check
  • Minimum two professional references
  • Based in Bali, with no plans to relocate; available to start in August

How to apply

  • Every goal, session note and update is tracked through one open, AI-assisted communication app — shared in full view by therapists, teachers and parents, and kept current in real time

The role

The Social Worker & Behavioural Specialist supports the social, emotional, communication and behavioural development of every child and teen at Winta's Place, ages 6 through 18 — and supports the adults around them too. This role sits between the classroom and the home: observing lessons to help shape each child's plan, meeting with parents to define and integrate meaningful goals, and delivering private, after-school sessions that build real, lasting skills. Autonomy and leadership are central — this person builds plans and drives change independently, with real results tracked and measured.

Employment summary

  • Reports to: Director of Special Education & Student Development (clinical and behavioural standards); Head Teacher (day-to-day classroom coordination)
  • Employment type: Part-time — 3 afternoons per week, term time
  • Salary: 6,000,000 IDR per month
  • Location: Pejeng, Ubud, Bali, Indonesia
  • Hours: 5 hours per afternoon, 3 afternoons a week — exact timing varies week to week around parent availability and each child's after-school schedule
  • Working pattern: hours are flexibly allocated across parent meetings, classroom observation and after-school private 1:1 student sessions
  • Age range supported: 6–18 years old — strategies adapted to developmental stage, not just age
  • Annual leave: 5 weeks off per year

What you'll bring — the person we're looking for

This role is as much about who you are as what you've done. We need a genuine practitioner — someone with a real, tested toolkit of strategies, not just frameworks and philosophy that sound right on paper but don't translate into hands-on change.

  • Could suit a psychologist — but only with genuine, hands-on practical counselling experience with children and teens, not primarily an assessment or research background
  • Could suit a paediatric-specialist counsellor or school social worker with real caseload experience
  • Confident and skilled across the full 6–18 age range, adapting strategies to developmental stage, not just chronological age
  • An exceptional listener — able to hold parents', teachers' and a student's perspectives at once, to build one holistic, consistent understanding of what a child needs
  • Comfortable with genuine autonomy and leadership — building plans and driving change independently, judged on measured results
  • Efficient and confident using AI tools to streamline goal setting, reporting and milestone tracking — guidance is provided, but this isn't a role for someone needing full training from scratch
  • Precise about confidentiality — knows what can and cannot be shared with the app, teachers, parents and the student themselves

Key responsibilities

  • Classroom observation & plan support — observe classes to understand how each child is engaging, regulating and communicating, feeding findings directly into their ILP and Behaviour Support Plan
  • Parent partnership & goal integration — meet with parents to genuinely listen and define clear goals, integrating school and family goals into one coherent plan rather than two separate tracks
  • After-school 1:1 student sessions — deliver individual sessions using tested, proven strategies, scheduled around each student's own availability
  • Teacher coaching & team collaboration — coach the Head Teacher and Assistant Teacher hands-on in the room, and maintain a current Behaviour Support Plan and profile for every child in the Winta's Place app
  • Report and flag any safety concern immediately and directly to the Director and Founder — a hard reporting line with no filtering at any stage

Development goals we focus on

Every observation, parent meeting and session is built around four connected goal areas, with real, tested tools — adapted for younger children and for teens — rather than one-size strategies.

  • Social — building genuine peer connection, turn-taking and friendship skills for younger children; and navigating complex peer dynamics, rejection and digital social norms for teens
  • Emotional — building body-awareness and tested calm-down strategies for younger children; and concrete anxiety-management tools and self-recognition of early warning signs for teens
  • Communication — visual supports and functional communication scripts for younger children; and self-advocacy and real-conversation rehearsal for teens
  • Behaviour — function-based Positive Behaviour Support plans and replacement-skill teaching for younger children; and collaborative, conversation-based problem-solving for teens

What we offer

  • 6,000,000 IDR per month, part-time (3 afternoons a week, term time)
  • Genuine autonomy and leadership — real ownership of plans, objectives and measured outcomes
  • A flexible schedule — 5 hours per afternoon, 3 afternoons a week, with timing that varies around parents' and students' availability
  • 5 weeks off per year
  • An intuitive, AI-assisted app that keeps reporting light so your time goes to children and families, not admin
  • A small, close-knit team building something new, in Ubud, Bali

Requirements

  • Degree or professional qualification in social work, psychology, counselling or a closely related field
  • Genuine, hands-on practical experience — candidates from a psychology background are welcome only with direct, practical counselling experience with children and teens
  • Direct experience working with neurodivergent children and teens across a genuine age range — ages 6 through 18, not one age band
  • A real, tested toolkit of practical strategies — not only theoretical or academic frameworks
  • Working knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support and neuro-affirming practice
  • Excellent, fluent English — spoken and written, as the school serves expat children and families
  • Comfortable and efficient using AI-assisted tools with guidance, without needing full training from scratch
  • Current First Aid certification and a clear police/background check
  • Minimum two professional references
  • Based in Bali, or willing and able to relocate, with no plans to relocate elsewhere

How to apply

Send a CV along with a short cover letter describing a real example of translating a child's or teen's need into a practical strategy that measurably worked, and a minimum of two professional references. Apply using the form below.
